[dropcap]N[/dropcap]amasté from Jaisalmer Lost Ones! It is time for you to go out and buy yourselves a mouth guard my friends, because shit is about to get real — real teeth-grinding and harrowing. I am writing to you from beneath a centuries old fortress in Jaisalmer, in a region of north-western India that is surrounded by sand dunes. Sandstorms and power outages have been a nightly occurrence so far. And the sun, it’s scorching.
Jaisalmer is also where the Rickshaw Run race will kick off, and where our team Teen Romanchak Yaar will be going forth with our trusty rusty steed into the ever loving arms of India’s most rugged terrain. Ever loving and ever destroying. After just a week in India, I know for certain that this 2,700km journey in our two-stoke 7hp tin-can on wheels will be a clusterfuck of mis-adventures. I’m beginning to wonder what I got myself into, as the rest of the team is. And as I sit here still scratching sand out of my hair from the sandstorm last night, the next two weeks to come while driving our rickshaw across India to Shillong looks like a blur. And the finish line seems like a mirage that may not exist.
And I am excited. This is what I live for, and also what our team lives for. So whatever happens, we asked for it.
The Rickshaw Run begins April 6th at 11:00am Indian time just a couple of days from now, and already we have had a couple of screw-ups. We just hope it isn’t foreshadowing the journey to come. Since we are now on the cusp of the race, I have created this page dedicated to how you can follow our entire adventure while it is happening, live. Well, as live as it can be when we are driving through dunes and plains and mountains and rivers. We are (attempting) to bring this race to you with updates, mishaps, activities, and life on the road as it happens.
We shall see how that goes.
First off, if it has slipped your memory, let me introduce you to the team.

Rutavi of PhotoKatha: Rutavi is Indian adventure traveler who has tackled most everything the country can throw at adrenaline junkies — except for something as wildly unpredictable as the Rickshaw Run. Despite her calm and collected exterior, inside she is secretly scared shitless that these two boys won’t be able to stick to the route and time frame she came up with.
Derek of The HoliDAZE: Derek left the USA in 2009 to travel the world. Eventually he realized that he couldn’t stop. Turns out travel is more addictive than heroin. The only medicine that eases his pain? A new plane ticket prescribed weekly — and regular shots of adrenaline. Of course since Derek doesn’t like needles he has to get his adrenaline rushes in real life.

After months of anticipation, and a week in India counting down until this moment, we have finally met our rickshaw. And it is pretty badass. I will note that The Adventurists who host the race already informed our team that since we are travel bloggers, we will be getting the shittiest rickshaw they could find. Their words as follows, “We aren’t Intrepid. We want you to get in trouble. You aren’t in the fucking kiddie pool now”.

As noted above, we will be trying to bring as much of this Rickshaw Run to you live, whether it be tweeting or Facebook posts or if we can manage it, a few minutes of live video streaming each day.

During the Rickshaw Run, our team will be posting a nightly recap where the group sits over some drinks and talks with you about some of the wild things that happened that day. Also, we will, given Wifi availability, be posting short minisodes about the run. After the Rickshaw Run is over and we have mended our broken spirits, we will be editing longer episodes into a series. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channels to know when the nightly videos are live, and to find out when full episodes are live!

Postcards from a Lost Boy is my weekly newsletter where I share more personal stories of life on the road than I do in this blog. Each month I pick a reader to send a postcard and Polaroid to from that country, so sign up and get the gritty updates about the Rickshaw Run as well!

This crazy adventure is also quite an expensive one, and we definitely wouldn’t be here without all of you amazing people that donated to the charities Cool Earth and Planeterra, and also to our GoFundMe fund raising. The race is for a pretty rad cause, like saving the Earth and all, so thank you for making this happen!
Here are the two charities which a grand total of $4,046 was raised!

Since the race costs are quite high; from the entry fees to the deposits, the flight costs to the road costs. For he Rickshaw Run, we have partnered with some companies that thought our little mis-adventure would be funny to watch, and even better to watch the mayhem unfold with their stickers on it. So yes, our rickshaw beaut will be covered up a bit, but we three would be completely broke after the race without their support.
